Anymore, it is not worth the space it takes on the hard drive unless you still run Windows 98. Last edited by Das Capitolin : 30th May 2006 at 08:00 AM. |

The Intel Matrix Storage Software was a software based RAID configuration alternative to the Intel RAID BIOS configuration utility (which is usually preferred and much more stable). Unless you run RAID configurations 0/1/5/10 and want to use software RAID building versus BIOS building you won't even want to install this software. All Intel Chipsets however can benefit from installing the Intel INF Chipset driver installer package. Intel didn't release any driver for ICH5. u have to use the windows native IDE controller driver. as for the matrix storage topic, yeah I guess you are right. "replace" is not the right term here. still, the need to install IMS is entirely dependant on your IDE configuration. IMS is basically just another set of optimized storage controller driver. that why I said the IAA has been replaced by the IMS. if you enabled NCQ (AHCI) without having RAID setup, you would still need to F6-install IMS.
