A useful way to repair XP without reformatting.

As a typical procrastinator I merrily kept adding things to my main XP machine when suddenly everything stopped working. I had several corrupt files which knocked out my usb so I had no keyboard or trackball. I went to my usual sources and found this rather involved but very effective method of dealing with the issue. using the same method here

but most of the time I just do a clean install.

Err.. You mean the repair-install feature? Been using that all the time.
