Default xp product key....

explain to me please...

I need to reinstall windows xp on my laptop, and it's the 5643 time I enter the xp key, but it's always the same message:

INVALID KEY.

but i'm using this keyfinder:
http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml

and I'm sure i dunnot miss any letter or number

could it be this reason?

Quote:
If your version of XP came pre-installed on your computer the revealed Product Key could be that of an image used by the manufacturer. If this is the case you will likely be unable to use it to install another version of Windows XP such as one purchased separately from the computer
i've already tried with the key written on the back of my laptop: same problem.

AM I STUPID doctor?

of course not....
My laptop was one of those wich doesn't came with an XP CD.

Only a toshiba utilities recovery CD.

...I'm using a "generic" XP SP2 Cd-rom, "borrowed" to a friend.

Anyway, where is located the validation Key they are asking for?

I bought this laptop in a legal reseller, so it's no hack, right?
I activated Windows as soon as I bought it and it worked perfectly.
All the updates have always been granted.

I swear officer, I'm not a anti-microsoft/democraty ennemy/baby-eater/commie!

In this case, I believe your recovery disc is your WinXP installation disc but I maybe wrong. On the topic of CDKEY, can someone point me to a CDKEY changer for XPSP2. Thanks

pfelelep: Sorry for hijacking your thread.

you mean, change XP key?

How to change the Volume Licensing product key on a computer that is running Windows XP SP1 and later versions of Windows XP

This article describes how to change the Windows XP product key after a Volume Licensing installation. You can use the Windows Activation Wizard graphical user interface (GUI) or a Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) script. The Activation Wizard method is easier, but if you must change the product key for multiple computers, the script method is better.

XP Key Viewer (pre-SP2) OR XP Key Viewer (SP2) -- if you have already installed SP2 and the older key viewer does not show the right key, try the SP2 (Magical Jelly Bean Keyinder v1.41) version key viewer.
interesting: I get 2 different Keys from my same laptop...

no license sticker under the laptop? all laptop with XP license have the sticker under it, if dun have, mean ur laptop is not with windows license

if u do with recovery CD, u no need to key in any key, just need to activate only.

you have to use back the original CD or at least the same version ...

if i;m not mistaken you are using an OEM which only works on certain OEM versions of XP ..

you cant use an OEM key on a original XP CD ..
