I just wish I can do the things I want to do on a PC.

Just stick to XP for now. It's pretty solid OS IMO.

Speaking of Vista, a bit OT here, but was wondering on the AERO interface. Originally asked this question in the Vista review thread, but no answer.

Is the AERO interface double buffered? Not able to test for myself, as my n800w's got a FireGL card which means no AERO.

i think he meant to say that Mac OS X boxed, *full* set costs like:
1) slightly less than or around the same as XP Home boxed,
2) less than half the price of XP boxed set?
3) definitely less than any of the Vista pricing
4) Around the same price as Vista Home Basic which none of you will ever be eligible to use, or for that matter, want to be caught using.

And better still, want cheaper? Get UNIX/Linux, no more complaints about price at all, Windows or Mac

Drivers are mostly built in, actually.

As for games, well I can't sya much about it, but nowadays gamers tend to go for console anyways.

I guess it really boils down to how you want to use your computer for. I know of someone who actually said he was not dumb enough to use a Mac, because he likes tinkering around alot in the Windows system, and have forgotten most of his linux commands to tinker around the UNIX system inside a Mac.

As for me, most of my work is UNIX based and a lot of stuff that I do requires a lot of UNIX tools, and there's no proper Linux notebooks (where I can be rid of hardware issues). Otherwise, my desktop is running Linux all these years, since 2002/03 I think.

So since Macs are UNIX, and comes with all the UNIX goodies I need for my studies and work, built in, and comes with a sweet interface, so yeah, Macs are for me. On Windows, I have to install Cygwin la, install this compiler that compiler la, install php, MySQL, Apache la.. gcc-win la.. flex for windows, bison for windows, perl for windows.. on the Mac, it's built in. Save me sooo much hassle. Some may think it's pricey, or flashy, or yuppie stuff, but to me, Macs get the job done for me.

Likewise, people who do .NET shouldn't be using Macs too much, or at all, although there's the Mono Project, but it's still safest to code on a real, proper .NET platform than a ported platform. Or poeple who do alot of custom Windows-only apps, or do alot of 3DsMax. Or a lot of overclocking, driver optimization, or stuff like that (not that it can be done on Macs, just that it's more prevalent on Windows systems)

Hey, I have Windows too. When I need to test websites on Internet Explorer or when someone gives me a model file for a particular software modelling tool that's Windows only. And I have Linux for daily desktop use, and hey, I've got a Mac as my portable computer. And each of the three platforms I use have their own uses to me.

So what gets the job done best, that's the best platform for you. Windows, UNIX, Linux or Macs.

My RM0.02

I'm pretty sure some of my hardware does not support anything other than Windows. Oh well...it's not that I'm a hardcore MS fan, but I don't have much choice.

Um, Macs come with the hardware+software in it together..

Unless you're talking about external devices? Most stuff are plug and play in here though. Been using various external devices without problems (unless you count the problems I had with a dying hdd).
