Default slow fraps -- laggy recording

hey, i am having troubles with recording my games, whenever i try to record the game(every game) starts being really laggy.
is any1 of you using fraps or something like that, does anyone know how to solve this, i have tried everything, from updating drivers, defragging to lowering deatils -- doesnt work....


celeron 3,3ghz
sapphire radeon 9600pro atlantis
512 mb ddr1
xp pro sp1
7200rpm hard disk
newest fraps & d3dgear
every single game including tetris and pong

I don't use FRAPS, but it requires really fast system to record FRAPS especially at higher resolution, usually a very fast harddisk is required.

Recommendation? You need fast CPU for fast encoding, and fast harddisk for saving large amount of data.

If you don't want to upgrade your PC, then choosing lower resolution is your only choice left.

oh well... i meant another program recommendations....
well i guess i will just have to change my res to 640x480 and details to minimum...

Well, FRAPS is the only software that I know which allows you to do this. I'm afraid I can't help you any further.

But if there's any other software, I'm sure the requirement will be equally high. If the software does more video compression which reduces the need for fast and large harddisk space, it will increase the CPU load a lot. If the software does not compress the video, your harddisk will be full in a blink.
