Yup. definately no gaming on any virtual PCs I'm actually even considering upgrading my processor to something one that supports virtualization and use VMWare ESX Server and run multiple virtualised partitions on top of it. LOL. mainly one Vista, one XP and one Linux partition. THat's be fun. but of course, no gaming for sure. But i can live with that. The only problem is .... 1 dual core CPU isn't going to have enough CPU resource to run all those virtual partitions at the same time. Hmmm

hardware accelerated virtualization is actually slower than the software magic implemented in VM, at least on the current hardware. VM actually recommended us to stick with software emulation..

the same goes to virtualbox, or any other proper virtualization software.

on a second note, seriously, do u even need ESX?

For fun mah LOL.

And funnily enough, VM told one of my client's there's virtually no performance impact when using ESX server to virtualize a 4 dual core CPUs server into 2 logical partitions with 2 "CPUs" each. Which I think is sort of plausible. It's definitely better than trying to share just 1 CPU to multiple partitions.

From the previous posts here, from what I'd concluded, it seems that VMWare is more flexible and provides more function compared to Virtual PC.

Hmm, if I am a new user to virtualisation, which one should I go for, VMWare or Virtual PC?

really depends on your usage needs. I like VMWare because I can do things like configure the network settings in detail, per adapter and also how I want to configure the NAT, or Bridge, etc... And also for Linux, VMWare has a client to use in the Linux virtual machine. There's none for VirtualPC...

And of course the fact that I can run my VMWare image on Linux machines too.

Ah I see. Guess I'll stick to VMWare as I touched it before... At least I know what it is lol...

Thanks. =)

Of course, VMWare is not free.
