MS Virtual PC 2007

Anyone using it now?

I thought it would be a good tool to test compatibility issues, but all the hardware drivers are emulated, including sound, video, and even BIOS. So you can only test software compatibility.

But it's very stable and usable, provided that you have enough system resources to handle 2 OS at the same time.

I used to use it. It's not bad. But I prefer to use VMWare now which is more comprehensive in terms of virtualization capabilities.

Yup, you can only test software compatibility with the OS and it's fun to use it to play around with other OSes.

I'm now using VMWare to virtualise a development environment so that it's portable. This allows me to do my development work anywhere and everywhere.

One of the key advantage of Virtual PC is 'free'.

I know that VMWare Server and Player are free, but the functionalities are limited, and the Vista compatibility is doubtful.

I use to use VMWare when I was testing Linux, but now Virtual PC is more than sufficient for me to test client server environment.

of course, Vista won't install in VMWare or even VirtualPC. so it's just Windows XP or Windows Server. Or of course any of the *nix OSes and Dos...

Wow. Vista installs in VirtualBox? That's impressive

I guess the emulation hardware is up to task for Vista to install. hahaha. The last time I tried installing Vista in Virtual PC, it said that it's not up to mark! Weird. Hmmm.

Maybe I should try agian.

Erm, one of the most important feature of Virtual PC 2007 is full Vista support, both host and guest OS.

LOL. maybe it didn't work when I tried to install the RC version of Vista. But Vista (with Aeroglass) would be quite slow on the emulated machine. I'd recommend Windows XP on it. nice and fast

especially if you allocate a nice 2GB ram to it the virtual machine.

There's no support for Aeroglass because it doesn't support DX. No gaming on Virtual PC, unless your game collection includes Minesweeper, even then, no hardware acceleration.
