Which one are you referring to? Generally, they don't really work.

The only reliable RAM boosters I know that work for sure are...

1. More physical RAM
2. Virtual memory

If I remember correctly, what ram boosting software do is that they release data from the ram that is no longer in use. So it "frees" up your memory and prioritizes the ram to the softwares you are running. Not that useful usually. Either ways, Windows memory management is suppose to do a good job already.

Increasing your ram capacity is the way to go.

well for me, it doesn't work. In fact, it slow down my computer, it uses a lot of memory to release unused memory, so for a moment it would feel like "hang". the best way still is add new ram

I have never had any luck with software ram boosters either and with the price of DDR2 dropping decent ram really isn't all that expensive to add ...

well, there's really no point releasing "used" ram when it's used as cache by windows and defragmenting of data on the ram since ram access times are superly fast.

As Adrian said, better to just get more RAM and setup the virtual memory right.

Not really using one, just wanted to see if there was some revelation that had been uncovered...

I used to use one in the Windows 95 days. Then I discovered they didn't really do anything at all.

There was also a RAM "doubler" that compressed data stored in memory so that more could be stored in the RAM. But the compression was just too slow to make a real difference.

If you are using Vista, it already has the SuperFetch function which is turned on automatically.

Basically it caches all commonly-used software in the PC.

It can works wonders, but the RAM it eats up is really insane. Make sure you have at least 1.5 GB of RAM and you are good to go.

Btw, Vista SP1 has improved performance by a noticeable margin from using it for a day so far.

Since RAMs are dirt cheap, I don't think these RAM boosting software will help too much.

The last time I used those software was a few years ago, when I was still using the K6-2 with only 96mb RAM!!

And that software gives me all the blue screens in WIn98!!
