Default AntiVir Personal 8.1.00.295 (Freeware Antivirus)

A new version of the freeware antivirus Avira has been released recently. It's a pretty good software whose had good ratings in detection and it uses very little RAM ~15 MB.

Worth checking out if you're using AVG or Avast free.

Homepage: Avira AntiVir Personal - FREE Antivirus

Download: Download AntiVir Personal 8.1.00.295 - FileHippo.com

The only downside to the software is that it comes with a nagscreen when updating. There's an easy work-around to this though:

Disable the Avira Antivir PE Classic avnotify nag screen

Cool beans! I'm using this one and it's very good!

Also, thanks for the disabling the nag screen!

heheh, I really hate that nag screen. Seems kinda "wrong" for an antivirus software to actually incorporate nagging stuff in their software.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.
I've been using AVG for about a year and it seems to work great. Who knows if it misses anything. I also run a few anti-spyware and the Kaspersky stand-alone scanner.

It's usually not recommended to have two antivirus' with their resident (real-time) scanners activated. They might conflict with each other and give a crazy ride.

You could have two antivirus installed at the same time though for on-demand scans, but only use one as resident scanner.
