Is UAC much different from that annoying Norton's System works program that also prompted you every time it started a program irregardless. I mean one reboot it would know right?

I think UAC is MS's futile attempt at a good firewall program but I don't have to allow or disallow permissions with Rivatuner EVERY TIME I reboot with my firewall ... I do with UAC

I think most average users would just click without reading the prompt as long as the program runs, which makes the whole UAC thing totally pointless

Usually the UAC prompt only happens when you attempt to run a badly written program. It prevents program running without user's interaction. That's why not all programs need UAC verification.

Well I don't really consider Rivatuner a badly written program lol but thats not my issue with UAC. My issue is the exclusion of a "don't show this again" or some kind of override. It should be up to the user which programs they run not Microsoft

with imagex, i can now get any new hardware up and running with a fresh installation of vista SP1 that includes all the drivers, sysmark 2007, stress and all the games in it within 15mins. awesome, HAL independence is just simply awesome..

vista is the most "misunderstood" OS ever

Why DX10? You can't run DX10 on XP anyway, how are you going to compare WinXP DX10 vs Vista DX10? It's tested on DX9 of course.

Just FYI, it is mentioned that the tests were all done in DX9 (well, obviously) in the testing methodology section.

Well they try alot to run DX10 on XP and it was proven many time it was do able to run DX10 on XP... but think the things on Vista who pisses me off the most it about security... it good to have an good level of security but at this point it's goes abusive...

Thanks for the info Chai and will check it out. The problem here again is this software detects which software MS itself has selected as compatible. Vista already has a warning as XP did for drivers and programs not having Windows certification during install and thats fine. But after a program is installed and running properly does it make sense to have UAC pop up every time you run it afterwards ?

Sorry but doesn't make sense here my UAC remains disabled but thanks for the info
