MKV works well with the K-Lite pack for me though. I think with olders version, the default installation would not install the Haali Media Splitter needed for MKV playback, but now it does

I like the user interface in VLC better, but the main reason why i'm using MPC instead is because when forwarding in big movies, VLC freezes or takes a really long time to go to that point, but in MPC it forwards pretty much instantaneous.

Does VLC have a toolbar with the seeking bar at the bottom like in MPC when you're in full screen yet? It's one of the things that turned me off about VLC

Like acedriver said, you use CTRL/ALT with the left or right arrow button to go forward or back.

Looks like this:

The last few versions of VLC Player (0.9.2 - 0.9.5) do have the small controls (including seek bar) that come up when you move the mouse in fullscreen mode. It also has a bunch of very strange effects in the new version, such as water effect on the lower portion of the screen, and "Psychedelic".

I've been using the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (Media Player Classic would play some things that VLC would not), but I think now I'll try CCCP.
