Reputation: 0 ![]() Rep Power: 0 | New system takes a VERY long time to shut down, but goes into 'sleep' mode in seconds - why? New build- ASUS P5Q SE Plus mobo, dual-core Intel E5200 CPU, 4G Kingston DDR2-800 RAM, Seagate 500G SATA HD, SATA CD/DVD-ROM & SATA DVD-RW, new XP-Pro/SP2 & all upgrades in (no SP3 yet). Registry tweaked only with the "Fast Shutdown" changes. Running ZA AV/AS System will go into 'sleep' in seconds, but takes a few minutes to shutdown/restart. Startup is relatively quick (< 1min) Need ideas............. ![]() |

Only the computer is powered down to a lower power state. Depending on what software you have running in the background, it can take a while to shut down or restart. Try checking what you have running in the background. You can reduce the shutdown time by reducing the number of software running in the background.

I have set theReg to immed close non-responsive apps Recommendations for "watching" the shutdown process ? ProcessExplorer? Process Monitor? |

Reputation: 0 ![]() Rep Power: 0 | Looks like if I first shut down Sys Tray items (Carbonite, Net Magic and ZA) the shutdown happens in seconds after "saving settings", so I guess that's the answer.....Ill set up a shutdown process to automate it. Thanks, all. |

Sometimes, when installing HP software (not all the time), some of your windows update .dll's get unregistered. Did you look at your event viewer to see if you've got any DCOM related errors? Try this, create a script and run it - its pretty harmless, but it re-registers your wu*.dll's net stop wuauserv regsvr32 /s wuapi.dll regsvr32 /s wups.dll regsvr32 /s wuaueng.dll regsvr32 /s wuaueng1.dll regsvr32 /s wucltui.dll regsvr32 /s wuweb.dll regsvr32 /s jscript.dll regsvr32 /s atl.dll regsvr32 /s softpub.dll regsvr32 /s msxml3.dll net start wuauserv ..AJ |
