It was already 2am and a little late, so I wanted to finsih everything before I slept.

My original intention was to let the battery finish off the installation, as it was like 90% complete prior to shutting down already.

But I forgotten that the battery was not even put in , haha

It was a new laptop, fresh from box, I only had 3 hours to install the OS before I sleep, so I didn't want to put in the battery as I want to give the battery a full charge the next day

Not for lithium-based batteries, but their meter can get inaccurate after some time. To recalibrate, you just need to discharge the battery completely.

Well, imagine if you just bought a new laptop, wouldn't you want to give it a nice full 8 hours charge?

Well, I normally just charge it up because it's unlikely to hold a significant amount of charge, usually 10-15%.
