Default Need some help with Vista!

Hye guys,

My gf's pc has been acting up overnight.
First, Windows Media Player refused to play any files. Tried with Media Player Classic, movie files can't be played, but MP3 can.

Firefox becomes laggy. Flash games run slow and laggy.

Do you think Vista is screwed or it is just some trojan/virus?

Any good free antivirus/adware software? I'm running Windows Defender + Security Essentials so far, but nothing comes up.....

avira antivirus quite good.

Have you tried System Restore?

*alternative*
As for firefox laggy, is the cpu usage 100%?
Try to reinstall flash, update to the latest.
and uninstall firefox.
delete these folder
C:\Program files\Mozilla Firefox
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\
then install back.
for media, try uninstall any codec installed and install it either K-lite or CCCP.
try uninstall using revo uninstaller.

• DL and run ATF-Cleaner (all checked) -> ATF-Cleaner.exe - www.atribune.org
• Do not reboot afterwards.
• DL, update und run a full scan of Malwarebytes -> Malwarebytes.org
• Reboot.

That's it.

As for "best free AVS" use Avast! -> avast! - Download antivirus software for spyware and virus protection

Ed.: ATF is for Vista, too.
Don't mind about "2k and XP only".

I would suggest ComboFix - the harsh way to remove known trojans.

Or post your HijackThis log

Thnx.

Ad ATF:
Btw. ... some tool I recommend for everyone to use it from time to time, it really keeps your Windows (2k/XP/Vista/v7) fast.
