Definitely wait for the new Skylake. It will be similar to the Haswell price anyway. Skip the Broadwell.

End of the year... UNLESS Intel delays it like they did Broadwell. :wall:

Here's my issue with the timeline - I kinda need a new PC ASAP. But Skylake looks enticing, especially with DDR4 as the new standard...

But end of the year? Four months?

Would Broadwell + H97 be okay for the next, say, 3 years?

    ....Help...

If Sandy bridge can last for more than 3 years, I don't see why haswell, Broadwell can't.

Look, if you need a PC now.. get it now. :wicked:

There's no need to wait. Because when Skylake comes, you will want DDR4, which is going to be expensive.

Better to just get it now... before the prices spike due to the dropping Ringgit. :D

Here comes the next question -

Is the perceived improvement of Broadwell VS Haswell (with a lower TDP) a worthwhile investment considering the premium that Broadwell processors will have over Haswell, or should the cheaper Haswell be the preference?

Unless you have specific needs for lower TDP and the Iris Pro 6200, there's absolutely no reason for you to even consider Broadwell. Haswell is definitely the obvious choice for you. 4790K, even if you don't overclock. But I didn't get that, and bought 4690K since I don't need hyper threading, and I just can't afford 4790K.

    Okay, order has been placed.

No, not Skylake, prices have shot up.

It's an i5-4670k, paired with an MSI Z87 board and 8GB of DDR3 1600 Mhz RAM.

Intel is tempting me with a possible testbed upgrade... but it would cost so much money! :wall: :wall:

Lol I quoted the wrong person.

But it won't be permanent, right?

So, here are the promised pictures of that new build.

That's an i5-4690k. Vietnamese batch, apparently.

And here's the MSI Z87-G41. Nothing too fancy. It was the cheapest Z87 series board I could find.

Motherboard and processor getting acquainted with one another before the i5 gets sealed away till the next upgrade (probably a water cooling kit).

And here's everything in place, complete with two sticks of 4GB DDR3 1600 RAM.

And at the bottom, you can just about make out the EVGA nVidia GTX980 FTW ACW2.0 (4GB).
