SLI switch card/ bridge connector???

with the death of my computer due to psu failure,im looking forward to upgrade

. thing is, i want to shut my bro up about his computer,with limited money, about 500 dollars +-50. i was looking over the sli mobos on newegg, and was wondering what the switch card does, since the mobo im looking at (dfi sli infinity) does not have a switch card, and the abit a8n, does.

im prob gonna get the 6600le from albatron, which does not have an sli connector, but according to pcstats' review, it does support sli, through the mobo. any info on this?

If i'm not wrong, switch card it to enable/disable SLi

Some motherboards that support SLI use the switch card to enable/disable SLI, on other boards this can be done in BIOS or the board will automatically detect two cards and enable SLI.

yep, what they said.

i'm using an asus a8n sli mobo, switch the card around to enable or disable SLI, plugin the connector to two SLI capable cards and viola...

ah, so the switchcard could be seen as "outdated" perhaps, if sli can be enabled from bios?

Some DFI boards use a row a jumpers instead. Similar to the switch card method.
