Are the GPUs listed in that guide in rank order from the worst to the best ?

No, we don't sort the card based on the performance. Actually we don't really have any specific way of arranging them

but if you look closer, most of them are arranged in this pattern: generation -> model numbers -> model suffix (from slowest to fastest)

Nope, you can't. The specifications only give you a rough idea of a GPU's performance. The only way to know for sure which GPU is faster, or how much it is faster than a competing GPU is to benchmark them and compare the results.

It's only comparable if they are based on the same architecture, but you won't know how much faster/slower it is until you benchmark them.
