AGP vs PCIe x_?

i know that this is a bit weird question but when comparing agp speeds with pcie speeds, to what version of pcie(x1, x2, x4, x16) can agp be compared to?
reason why im asking: my mobo has AGP x8 port togetrher with PCIE x16-look-a-like; the architecture of that pcie port is the same as x16 but its speed(or whatever) is actually x4 so is that slower or faster then agp?
and is there a huge difference between x4 and x16?

That's actually the PCI-E x16 slot, but it's running electrically at 4x because of some sort of problem in those VIA chipsets.

Thats a strange combination why the heck would they put AGP and PCIE on the same Mobo

And they made the AGP x 8 the primary slot. Unless there is an option in BIOS to select PCIE as the primary video device and it "shadows" the AGP slot(Allowing it to use PCIE x 16) I think your PCIE slot is very limited ...

yeah well its a transition board you buy it and buy pcie card, ddr2, core2duos when you have money not all at once...
i will see whats up in bios

Theoratically, AGP 8x has higher bandwidth than PCIE 4x, but PCIE allows data transmission both ways due to its serial bus.

How much difference is PCIE 4x compare to AGP 8x, I don't know. But I think AGP 8x should be faster on your machine.

Transition is painful, but I saved up enough money before upgrading to DDR2/PCIE motherboard. DDR2 isn't very expensive these days, and AGP card is getting rare.

I never like hybrid motherboards.

Chai I agree and especially on this board since the AGP x 8 is the primary video card slot ... the PCIE slot is not true unless it can be configured in BIOS ...

From the reviews I've read, the Dual-VSTA has a lot of mixed opinions.

The turn-offs I should say is a poor cold-boot, and also the PCI-E slot is flaky. Occasionally it went 1x, and seriously, it irritated the gamers when they found out that the framerates has a sharp decline. The slot has an electrical problem - I'm sure that chipset is pretty old enough (P4 era - they might have only changed the voltage regulators only to accomodate the Cores) too.

The hybrids are special, but in an Intel build, it'll be very difficult. For AMD systems, the hybrids are rare too, but they are okay i guess.

Nowadays DDR2 RAM sticks are darn cheap enough to allow users to buy even two sticks, totalling up to 2GB for a very low price! I built one for my friend and he never regretted buying more!

and, the PCI-E couldn't be configured through BIOS - again I should repeat that the 'defect' or limitation in the VIA chipset architecture only allows 4x instead of 16x.

personally speaking, hybrid board are a special one, but since RAM sticks are too cheap, I never even bothered getting one.

it has an option to selec primary bus but when i pick pcie there are no speed options they only exist 4 agp
there is that pipeline thing, have no idea what it is but it can be enabled or disabled

My suggestion is to stick to AGP until you get a proper PCIE motherboard.
