1. Yes, 8600GS does exist as a desktop PCI-E card 2. They typically ship with complete PCs rather than stand alone products 3. People often upgrade what they have bought, so you can expect to see 8600GS cards available 2nd hand 4. I happen to have 2 in SLI, as supplied with one of my systems. I've benchmarked mine, as they'll shortly be replaced on delivery of my 9 series cards, but... 3DMark06 score, Q6600 at 2.4MHz, 3GB RAM @ 800MHz, no overclock, Dual 8600GS in SLI - approx 5035. 3DMark06 score, similar but not identical system, 2GB RAM, SINGLE 8600GS - approx 2800 So, yes, if you can pick up a second, it'll make a difference. What counts is whether the price justifies it. | |
