Arrow Video editing Card??

I am building a new computer and looking for an Nvidia chipset video card for the computer. No overclocking of the computer will be done and no game playing. Simply editing videos off digital camcorder as well as still photos and day to day work ie email etc.

Any suggestions are welcome. Looking for reasonably price cards. May use Vista but leaning towards XP Pro.

If you are going edit HD content, a video card with hardware based decoding of HD content will make sure you videos play smoothly on your PC. The ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro seems to be a good pick if you're on budget.

I don't think it really matters what video card you need, because you rely most on CPU.

Yeah, the graphics card will not play any significant role in video editing...

You can go for a 8600 GT or GTS.As you won't be playing games, you won't be needing a better card than that.I don't know what CPU you've decided to buy but a good CPU would play a great role in your case.Which softwares would you be using btw for video editing ? Adobe Premiere,Max 8 or other high-end editing softwares do support multicores so if you can invest in a Quad core CPU like Q6600 , it would be much helpful to your video editing jobs as most of these video editing jobs will be able to take advantages of multiple cores.Think about Premiere which will divide a video editing job to all 4 cores (if you buy a Quad core CPU) & will do the job much much quickly than a single or dual core.

So, in short, i would say an 8600GT & a Quad core would be ideal for you.If you can't upgrade to a Quad core then get a quality C2D like E6750.
