Default is it Worth upgrading?

i got a Geforce 7800GTX. and i been thinking of upgrading my GFX for ages. and now the new 9 series are out... i was thinking the 8 series are now cheaper maybe id snag one but i dunno...

is the performance increase on the 9800GTX worth it for the cost increase or should i get an 8800GTX?

I think it's best to wait for next gen. 9 series = 8 series in terms of performance.

Depending on your expertise and willingness to try. You might even look at doing something like this with the 9600GSO. Granted you have to have a specific model number to do it. But the ones on Newegg are selling for around $120 US. If I can find one of the KFA2(US branding on this maker) I may give it a shot myself.

Save a little cash and wait and see what the next gen video cards are capable of. Actually theres prob more than one maker or model number out there that have done this with thier units. Worth looking into, I plan on it, if for nothing more than something to do

THX for including that but I have my doubts it will work properly. The GPU on the 9600gt is a better overclocker though as it doesn't suffer the heat issues the 8xxx series GPU's do.

Honestly antmic I would leave the 9800GTX and that series be and await newer platforms

actually the 9600GSO series is a renamed 8800gs with better cooling...

The thing is some manufacturers are using 8800gts bases instead (like galaxy).
