Just bought Gainward 9600GT card a week ago, there's a SPDIF optical port at the back of the card, not stated on the manual whether it's an input or output, did some google, some said its output, some said it's input, so what do you guys think?
LOL, you guys have your own logic, but some website states that it's optical INPUT so that if you have external sound card, you can connect it to the card to enable HDMI audio
Just did some google, guess it's something new for all of us, it's SPDIF optical INPUT http://event.asus.com/vga/manual/hdmi_spdif_cable.pdf
Well useful for noob like me that dare not connect the SPDIF cable to the GC because i'm not sure black and red goes to which pin. Also useful for those who uses external sound card Its Gainward 9600GT Golden Sample 1GB DDR3
mac that is palits pcb LOL some info from msi : Use the compliant SPDIF Internal cable to connect both the SPDIF connectors on the VGA card and your mainboard. Make sure to (1) plug the orange cable to the SPDIFpin and the black one to the GND-pin on the mainboard; and (2) plug the other end (2-pin white connector) of the cable to the SPDIF connector on the VGA card. Note that wrong installation may cause the damage to the VGA card.1.
It's only useful if you are planning to use the HDMI to a TV. Else, it's useless. That's what I meant. It doesn't mean if you have an external sound card, you have to use that. In fact, you can use your external sound card and connect it directly to your sound system.
