Default Nvidia GTX280 dropping price???

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 Price Dropping to $499?! - HotHardware

This is great news for us consumers. But it still doesn't make much sense when 4850 Crossfire is still cheaper than GTX280, especially when most users now have Intel boards rather than Nvidia.

NVidia cards have always been overpriced that's why I have stayed away from them for 5 years. I have been waiting for something better from ATI and the 4870 might be what I am waiting for. I didn't buy this Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6 to run a 9600GT its a Crossfire board so we will see

Yup, even 4870 is already selling as low as RM930/~$290 here

IMHO, Intel's support of CrossFire is a big problem for NVIDIA right now. With practically all new Intel boards supporting CrossFire, it will definitely put a damper on NVIDIA's sales.

Well to be honest Adrian NV hung themselves on that one by limiting SLI to NV chipsets. It can be used with modded drivers but haven't seen any to support the newer cards and really doesn't work well anyway.

I agree. That was like shooting themselves in the foot.

if you think about it, even their single card is a problem for NV already (at this time that is, it's like Radeon 9500 / 9700 days again) and couple that with CF ability - it's good!

Not as bad as Radeon 9700 days, but it's quite bad, especially when ATI price their card extremely competitively. I feel that both 4870 and 4850 are underpriced. :O

It's crazy, even 4870 is much cheaper than GTX260 which is slower and more expensive!
