Replacement for POS Broadband router

I'm currently using Dlink DI-624+, which honestly, is a real POS. It hangs everytime when there's a lot of simultaneous connections. The only solution is this is cut the power off and on again!

Anyone out there using a better router than this? Or should I just set up a PC?

Linksys routers are pretty good.
But if you do have a spare PC lying around, get 2 NICs and setup a linux installation.
1 NIC for Modem, another NIC to the switch (LAN)
Setting up the DHCP server and routing may not be as simple for a regular windows user, but it's not too hard either. There are lots of guides on this. one thing's for sure. it's damn stable.
Also, you probably only need a p3 machine with 128MB of RAM. u can probably run a tiny linux kernel that runs off a USB thumbdrive too.

Have a Linksys BEFSR41... Disconnects occasionally (not sure if it's still Streamyx having problems?), but way better than the old Level One i originally got...

peaz: What's an NIC? Do you have any links for set-up?

NIC = Network Interface Card

As for the Linksys BEFSR41, you need to updated it with the latest firmware. I also had problems with it unitl i updated it. I'll try to find the link for you. It's quite hard to find since it's a discontinued product.

As for links to setup a linux router, off hand I can't remember any. But basically, you'll be setting up the rules and using iptables to work out the routing, if i'm not wrong

Bleh. Hyper's probably the better person on Linux stuff.

I really don't mind paying for a good router instead of all those built-in modem, router, switch, AND AP!

Sounds like the same problem I have with my WRT54G...

I would suggest something else, unless I can actually solve it...

Good, something to avoid. But I've read a lot of good things about the WRT54GX, or was it GS?

Reviewers seem to test the raw speed which honestly, most people don't really care. It's easy to review it that way, but pointless.
