assuming you're on Windows XP

go to Control Panel
then Network Connections

right click on your LAN connection and select PROPERTIES

select Internet Protocol(TCP/IP), click PROPERTIES

now under the GENERAL part (the first part you see) make sure it's OBTAIN AN IP ADDRESS AUTOMATICALLY.

alternatively if you don't want to obtain it automatically, you could put it just like what you saw on your notebook

IP Address: 10.0.0.12
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 10.0.0.2

in fact, you could set it manually for both if you want to.

PC =
IP Address: 10.0.0.12
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 10.0.0.2

NOTEBOOK =
IP Address: 10.0.0.13
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 10.0.0.2

that's odd. cos really, if your notebook works then your PC should work.

so if you emulate your notebook's settings on your PC, it will be surfing the net.

how about going to command prompt, type "ipconfig -all"

do you see anything like...

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.9.201.201
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.9.201.200
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.9.201.200
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 202.188.1.5
202.188.0.133

in fact - have you tried using Network Setup Wizard? probably the easiest way to setup a network.

Try setting the IPs manually ? aside from the "limited connectivity" warning, does the connection actually work ?

tried already the settings ip manually....but still couldnt get the internet...anyway my problem solved....i got the solution from other forum......it ask me to change this settings :

I think your PC's ethernet is not fully compatible with the network switch. Try this on your PC:

Open Control Panel
Click on Network Connections
Right click on Local Area Connection and select Properties
Click on Configure... button
Click on Advanced tab
Change the Value of Link Speed/Duplex Mode from Auto Mode to 10 Full Mode.
Click OK.

Note: If it still doesn't work properly, try 10 Half Mode instead of 10 Full Mode.

thanks to all for trying helping...cheers

When you have to do this it suggests a physical issue. It's either a bad switch port, bad NIC or (the most likely culprit) a bad cable. Lemme guess - the cable you're using was hand-made or doesn't otherwise have molded connectors on either end? Bad cables can mess sooo many things up...

I'm no network expert but...

I once had a bad experience with a NIC that was not really faulty, but just refused to work properly when it was set to Autodetect the transfer protocol.

In the end, I managed to get it working by manually setting it to 100mbps Duplex. Worked like a charm after that.

Thumbs up

Good tip for people who own an ADSL modem that suddenly stops working, thru setting changes or other on your machine, when everything else fails. If you r-click on icon in sys tray & select repair, disconnect power supply for say 5 sec before retrying your internet connection. It can usually work even when tech support can't help.
