Reputation: 0  Rep Power: 0 |  Internet call registers a metered landline phone charge? Granting that my Telco service provider was right that maybe one of the overseas website I previously visited triggered an auto-dial, will that Internet call register land-line charges? Please help, I will use your expert opinion to contest the phone charges. |

Reputation: 3147   Rep Power: 68 | If you are using a dial-up modem, then yes, the website can install a script or something that causes your modem to disconnect and dial up a long-distance service.

Reputation: 0 Rep Power: 0 | Well, yes. I use Dial Up modem (but I have Avast Home edition on, Firewall on and I use Firefox as my browser) And I do visited Porn Site (Hey, I'm a consenting Adult, nothing's wrong with that), but careful not to click anything. |

They essentially hijack your browser, close the Internet connection and load a dialer that uses your dial-up modem to call a long-distance service. That's how they cheat you of money. The telco isn't at fault, since it's your modem dailing up the service.
