Default can surf net but cannot use BT/YM/MSN/Steam

recently, I cant on my ym and msn but i can surf net, so I reformat my computer, but the problem still persist.I did not install any firewall and closed the windows default firewall.I also port forward all the port. Anyone can give me hint how to check the port or something along the line?

BTW, did you set up the DNS servers properly? TMNet's default DNS servers are :

Primary : 202.188.0.133
Secondary : 202.188.1.5

If he cant surf net, but not IM, I don't think it's DNS setting issue.

To me look like proxy issue or may be the port issue

Actually, that's why I suspect a DNS issue. IMs use direct IPs to communicate. Only browsers need DNS to resolve the domain names.

Why is it a DNS issue when he said IM is not working, but surfing net is OK?

Sorry, I made a typo in my previous post, but he did clearly say surfing net is fine.

Crap, I read it wrong. He CAN surf the Net but cannot use Bittorrent / Yahoo and other messengers.

Well, those are often due to port and routing problems, especially Bittorrent. So, I will have to ask - are you using a router?

Hmmm need to find out more. is he using streamyx? or is this internet access from a hostel or what?

I suspect it's a proxy server blocking all non-port 80 requests. doesn't makes sense otherwise.
