According to ZDnet, the MAC address can be viewed in clear text by a packet sniffing software
From there, the hacker can spoof his wireless adapter's MAC address and gain access to the wireless network

You should not use MAC address filtering by itself.

Think the best way to don't have thoses kind of problems is don't brought an wireless router if not necessery rofl XD

wireless Lan is not very safe.Everyone know that.Now IEEE develope some ways to keep the infomation safe.

3 Months ago i did test with my friends and somes laptops... on 95 wireless networks we discovered in about... 1 km of road 69 wasent protected.

And im talking about Montreal... who is an big city

So think about New York and all thoses BIG CITIES who're vulnerable(as i think) .

WPA + at least 32 character password changed often + no broadcast of SSID + MAC Filtering + Turn down antenna power + change default admin password. Do all that and you might keep the average joe out.
