Default Subscription fee for Maybank2u.com effective 20 December 2004

Quote:
Dear Valued Customer

Thank you for using Maybank2u.com services.

Since the launch of Maybank2u.com in June 2000, we have provided a wide range of services to enable you to enjoy security and convenience in online banking. Our goal is that you, as a valued customer, will always receive quality products and services. This access to Maybank2u.com has been made available to you on a complimentary basis.

You will appreciate that we have regularly upgraded our online services, enhanced the security features and expanded the online facilities from time to time to enable you to enjoy even better services. These have also included considerable investments in infrastructure to ensure that Maybank2u.com remains a portal which is able to serve your varied financial needs efficiently. Arising from these initiatives, we have given careful thought and have had to make a difficult decision to introduce a minimal subscription fee for our internet banking services from next month. Effective 20 December 2004, a nominal subscription fee of RM6.00 will be charged on a half-yearly basis for all Maybank2u.com registered users. This RM6.00 fee, which is equivalent to only RM1.00 a month will be debited from your account every six months, and will provide you with unlimited log-on access for the six-month period.

However, if you are a First Time Login customer, you will enjoy the convenience of Maybank2u.com services for a month, at no charge. If you wish to continue to log-on to Maybank2u.com after the one month free period, the half-yearly nominal subscription fee of RM6.00 will be applicable. Should you choose not to subscribe to Maybank2u.com, you can alternatively use our other delivery channels, such as our Kawanku ATMs, Kawanku Phone Banking or visit our branches for your banking and bill payment transactions. However, we trust that you would continue to use Maybank2u.com for a nominal fee to enjoy the many services and time-saving conveniences available.

We thank you for using Maybank2u.com services and look forward to serving you better.
This is absolutely crap news for a registered user like me! Especially when I hardly use them. I will probably stop using it all together!

If only life was so simple...

There are many other issues with other banks too. Pubic....Public Bank is going to increase fees for current account, charging per month instead of year. I'm not sure if any other banks have good online banking as Maybank's.

Well, the thing is most people are using Maybank so it makes sense to stick to Maybank.

You can switch to another bank but if you want to send money to an account with another bank, they will charge you RM 2 or something like that PER transaction.

So, in the end of the day, you still lose out. That's how they get you.

Unless you guys know another bank that works just as well, without all these ridiculous fees.

DYKT : Maybank charges RM 2 per interbank transaction and limits each transaction to a maximum of RM 3000?

Guess what, I just noticed that Public Bank was charging the nominal fee for current accounts which means I'm not affected as long as I don't issue cheques. Yahoo! Anyway I'll be waiting to cancel my Maybank2U subscription cause I cannot afford their exhorbitant fee of RM12. Imagine Maybank has a million customers using their Maybank2U services, which translates to a profit of 12M and yet I have no idea what servers requires 12M to maintain. WTF
