Hi guys, well what you guys said are true. From the education we receive and culture that we have, since young we have been spoon feeded and been spoiled by out parents.Ok as not to be so subjective, not all but most of us.Me myself been spoon-feeded back in my tiatery education and when i got into a local college where all the syllibus are fully edited by the lecturer from overseas,i found the pain in the ass.

I never study in local universities before since i cant step my foot into it due to some quota system back in my time. But honestly at my time,UM has been receving a great deal of being known as the best university in malaysia. And now i'm stuck of getting into local universities for post grads.Since local universities has been known as the cheapest tuition fees compare to those private uni and colleges. So for the low price in tuition fee what more can we ask if compare to those overseas universities.

That's the problem actually. And many are unable to break out of this vicious cycle, hence emails to politicians to grumble about lecturers being bad just because they didn't get fed the way they expected to be. Moreover, there are also jokers (as in lecturers) who actually encourage spoonfeeding because it makes the job easier.

Btw, Ken, do you know of this particular lecturer in UM called Dr Teh Ying Wah?

Actually, just re-read the paragraph in the portfolio, seems that this ruling applies only to foreign universities with campuses in Malaysia only, being granted full autonomy on all matters pertaining to all matters of academic nature.

I guess in your case, your college was a local college with a foreign twinning programme, so it doesn't fall under this new policy change.

Argghh... That's stupid. They are only applying such a policy because foreign universities will never think of setting up campuses here if they are forced to follow the local standard.

So, I guess that's it for our local faculties...

Hmm Dr Teh Ying Wah. I think I've heard of her name before but I was not taught by her in any of my papers.

Seriously there are some good lecturers and some just downright... well.... i'll reserve the word.

no matter how good or how bad a lecturer or professor,it's better for a student to take inisiative to self-study.Those lecturer and profressor is where we find answers when we stuck in the corner.

So any one, have any comments in UM?Plan to apply for their postgrads programme.

Well.. Teh Ying Wah.. poor guy. He was teaching part time in Monash last year , brought in on last minute notice to replace a lecturer who left, and I think the poor fella got a culture shock, facing my riotous class He thought we were dumb enough to not know anything about UNIX, and when he made up facts and my classmates and I just went, "YEAH RIGHT!", poor guy got a shock of his life

He even uttered the infamous phrase, "I know what makes a good lecturer. A good lecturer is one who gives a lot of HDs or As to the students, or try to help the student get as much As as possible, so that the students will come back and thank you after they grdauate"

And then he went on grumbling about how he'd really like to help us do our assignment and exams (basically, spoonfeed us), but the Monash system is not allowing him to spoonfeed us, and how upset he is about that...

That said, he was one of the lousier UM temp I've seen in Monash, but I had another temp UM lecturer, also brought as a last minute replacement, (Dany) Ang Tan Fong, who actually knew his stuff and he was a very good lecturer. I like Ang.
