Default Our education system is Islamic, says Pak Lah

Quote:
SHAH ALAM: Those who claim that the national education system is not Islamic need only look at the education system today, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

“I used to wonder why people said that our educational system wasn’t Islamic.

“Then I realised that even though what we taught was suitable and good for people and conformed to religious norms, our education system did not include the study of the Quran until graduation level,” he said.

The Education Ministry has since included Quranic studies into the present system.

“Our children are taught to recite the Quran until they have perfected it,” he said at a khatam Quran (Quran recital graduation) ceremony for 22 primary pupils from all over the country here yesterday.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein was among the audience observing the completion of part of the Education Ministry’s JQAF (Jawi, Quran, Arabic and Fardhu Ain) programme.

The programme, which was Abdullah’s brainchild, was implemented last year in about 1,221 selected primary schools throughout the nation.

Abdullah also advised pupils under the JQAF programme to learn Arabic as it would better their understanding and eventual mastery of the Quran.

“The Quran is in Arabic which is not our language and we have to understand it,” he added.

I'm curious now.. what about the old skool christian/catholic mission schools? I hope they're not forced to comply, or that the govt people can think they can easily subjugate the church. Especially when many Malays send their kids to Catholic/Christian mission schools.

Nah, I don't think so. It only applies to Muslim students. Non-Muslims have to learn Moral Studies.

Then by definition it is not Islamic, it's semi-secular/semi-Islamic.

Hence, it is wrong by definition to label the whole as Islamic when only part of it which applies to part of the students is Islamic. And that their "Islamic" means Islamic subjects only, other secular subjects are taught.

And Islamic education means it is done in the Islamic way, which it most certainly isn't for the secular subjects.

Well, politicians love to label stuff. That's what Badawi is doing.

Maybe he thinks it will win him more votes with the Muslims in the coming elections. The whole government seems to be more intent in winning elections than running the country.

Don't worry about it. Badawi's going down in history as Mr. Slogan. What's next? Ramli burgers will henceforth be known as Malaysian burgers??

All this is merely UMNO sandiwara (puppet play). Designed to pull a veil over the eyes of a guillible public.
