Default Man suspected of pinching a PS3 shot dead by cops

Quote:
ARMED COPPERS shot dead a student they suspected of pinching a Playstation 3.

The 18 year-old, Peyton Strickland, was killed last Friday as he went to answer a knock at the door. Outside was a band of heavily armed police who, it is suggested, blasted him to kingdom come because the games controller he had in his hand may have looked like some sort of weapon.

The assassination squad had seen pictures of Strickland and pals posing on the Interweb with a selection of assault weapons. So naturally they went in tooled up and took no chances. Stickland's dog, Blaze, was also blasted to bits. He probably had big teeth.

"If this boy would've come to the door, opened the door, we probably wouldn't be talking," the sheriff told the local Raleigh News & Observer.reported.

Americans are warned either to open their door promptly when it is knocked at, or to swiftly leg it out the back an see how far they get. On no account should they dither about or have anything in their hands.

The sorry tale began after one student bought himself a pair of Playstation 3s after queuing for three days. It seems some other students couldn't be bothered with all that queuing so mugged their console-toting colleague instead.

So the armed plod were called in and dealt with their number one suspect like and good console-playing bad-guy busting citizen might, and stuck cap in his ass*.

* Head, actually. Poetic licence applied for.

Read the original article that they got the info from...

Quote:
The prosecutor has reached out to Strickland's father, Don Strickland, a personal injury and wrongful death attorney in Raleigh.
So is it a really bad joke or is life really that ironic

The Inquirer really makes it sound a lot different that it was on the local news...........The "assassination squad" was like 2 patrol cops if I remember right and no one was out to kill anyone. News reporting at it's worst I guess.

Yup, that's most likely the case. It always happens with news reporters...

The Inquirer seem's to have put a "slight" slant on the story.

A slightly different version of the story can be found Here.

Sure the guy stole a ps3, But sadly this thing happens all the time here in the states. I swear I think half of the people who are cops do it just so they can drive fast and beat people up. And shoot them if they can "get away with it".

Jezzzus,,, They even shot his dog.

Time after time they shoot first, and then ask questions later.
IMO, It just goes to show how scared they are. I understand being a cop is very risky work, but if a cop is so trigger happy as to over react like this, then he/she should find some other line of work. (that won't get someone killed)

Hmm.. Even if it's been twisted a little, a guy still died.. all for a Playstation 3. That's insane...

If they were gun-toting terrorists or drug traffickers, I would understand the need to shoot at the slightest pretext. But heck, this is just for a Playstation 3!!

True, but they could have easily killed the guy they stole ithe PS3 from. And you just don't take chances anymore these days being a cop, out where I live (St Louis) they get killed/shot almost daily. And the guys they were after were already know to the police as being trouble makers.
I grant you that the police should have been more prepaired for stuff like this before it happens, but the game controer could have easily been a gun. As for the dog, it's a shame, but it was more than likely attacking the cops after they shot the dude, I know my 3 dogs would have.
