Fiat Nuovo 500!

The 500 is back! (Well, almost.). This car was originally launched in 1957 & was very popular in its time. 50 years after the original 500 was launched, here's the all-new 500!

My dad used to have the original one, in yellow, and he really loved it. If he sees the new 500, he'll be even happier!

Three engines will be offered, one diesel & two petrol engines.

And it's a very cute car. Just like the original!

I think my dad wold buy one without hesitation if the new car is available in yellow & is also available down under!

Hope it isn't a lousy pastiche like what BMW did for the new Mini and even worse, VW and the new Beetle (A bloody sacrilege in my opinion)

Bah!

The new BMW MINI is nothing more than an upmarket (Overpriced.) German compact hatchback with a British badge slapped on it. Not the tiny, fun to drive, budget supermini like the original. Oh, the R56 has MINIDrive too! (A renamed IDrive.)
My mum actually liked it when she first saw pics of the new mini back in 2001, but when she sat inside the actual car, it felt a bit too big for a Mini.

The Fiat 500 on the other hand, will stick to the tradition. What a 500 should be.

Let's hope it is. Too bad it can't faithfully follow the Nuova 500's packaging innovations/eccentricity of suicide doors, rear engine position and space efficiency. Blame the EU for that. But hope Abarth really cooks up a real hot version as it's the 500 that gave Abarth it's tuning start

It will be nice to have a modern day, mid-engined 500, but the FF layout (Fiat Panda platform.) is good to keep development & manufacturing costs down (We're talking about a Fiat here, not a Lancia, Ferrari or a Maserati.) and as you've mentioned, today's EU safety laws.

Agree with you but as long Fiat is able to maintain the essence which made the original 500 fun and well loved, and with a decent price to match (unlike those Mini's and Beetle's), I think it should do ok actually
