Indeed. Send an orthopedic surgeon to do cellular studies. Nice.

If you're gonna waste 25 mill (USD folks) at least send a micro biologist to do that crap.

I joked with my friend, at least the joints of the astronauts will be well taken care of...

And he's noted as a "space flight participant". *cough* tourist *cough*

Malaysia's space program involves wasting tax payer money on buying a ticket with another country that needs something to fund its space program (I guess anyone will do). No offense to the Russians.

Warning! Spoiler Below:
And no, its not YOU LMAO! <-- Promoting new feature.

Well, among his most important space task is to bring some Malaysian food to space.

Can you say ... wow?

I didn't even bother turning to Astro Channel 588 for the launch or any of the show. Not that I'm not a loyal Malaysian, but what does this prove?

We do not have the capability to even design or build a satellite, much less go to space on our own. Once this trip is over, it's over. Did they think that they would now be able to launch their own shuttles and rockets???

I envy him but I think this is yet another waste of our money. We will be known as the first country to send up a space tourist using public funds.

Hee hee... that's why I lol-ed too hard upon reading all these. No need to make it so big lah... it's just a trip right? Not sure whether are they angkasawan (astronaut), or they are just space tourists who got their free tickets from the purchase of jet-fighters.

And bringing food up there sounds weird... well, if I bring a few hot satay sticks there will the sticks still taste good or hot??

since we cant stop the joker, lets laugh at the joke our 'gomen' created then.

got this from an email.

Quote:

According to The Star, Dr Sheikh Muszaphar is our astronaut. According to Malaysiakini, he's a part-time model AND astronaut.
According to NASA however, he's neither Astronaut, nor Cosmonaut (ie. Russki)... but get this... he's a "Spaceflight Participant". In NASA-speak... that basically means baggage. The kind a space crew needs as much as you'd need a pair of testicles growing out of your forehead.

The Expedition 16 crew members pose for a portrait at the Johnson Space Center. From the left (front row) are Russia's Federal Space Agency cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko, flight engineer and Soyuz commander; astronaut Peggy Whitson, commander; and Malaysian spaceflight participant Sheikh Muzhaphar Shukor. From the left (back row) are European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Léopold Eyharts, astronaut Garrett Reisman and astronaut Dan Tani, all flight engineers.

And the website also has short descriptions of what each person will be doing on the mission:

Some samples...
Commander Peggy A. Whitson - Whitson is the commander for Expedition 16. This is her second tour of duty aboard the station. She also was a flight engineer and science officer for Expedition 5 in 2002. Whitson also worked underwater as a NEEMO 5 crew member in 2003. + Biography

Flight Engineer Daniel M. Tani - Tani will fly to the station aboard space shuttle Discovery on STS-120 and join Expedition 16 as a flight engineer. He will return home aboard space shuttle Atlantis on mission STS-122. + Biography

Eveyone's either a flight engineer or the commander. But what will our jaguh kampung will be doing?...
Spaceflight Participant Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor - Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor will launch with Expedition 16 and land with Expedition 15. + [no Biography linked].

Ahem... that's as concise as it gets... he goes up, wastes some oxygen, and he comes down. And THAT folks is what our tax-payers are paying over 500 millions Ringgit for. Wasteful and grossly misplaced national pride. Well... that and a live test on the trajectory of ejaculate when one masturbates in space. Because judging from the amount of respect our 'space flight participant' is getting from NASA, wanking will be about all he's allowed to do.

Another Malaysia Boleh !
nice reading. but dun take it so seriously

My TV1 reception is a little bit off - cause the antenna is half-way broken. Anyway, still seen the interviews, they are praising the launch very nicely, but they are doing it a little overboard.

Well, I thought they didn't use the money, because the air-ticket is free?

Well, for all the money they are spending on him... I hope they let him do something useful.. even if it's just spinning a top or handing out Malaysian food.

Nothing is "free" in this world. We had to buy their fighter jets to get this "free" trip for our "spaceflight participant".
