Default Car Running on Compressed Air?

I didn't even know these existed

Video: HowStuffWorks Videos "Discoveries: Compressed Air Car"

Quote:
Compressed air car - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A compressed air car is an alternative fuel car that uses a motor powered by compressed air. The car can be powered solely by air, or combined (as in a hybrid electric vehicle) with gasoline/diesel/ethanol or electric plant and regenerative braking.

interesting. the only problem is compressed air doesnt store enough energy to run the car for long distance, althought it might be cheaper = have to refill more often.

another problem is... if there is a leak .. happy finding

Not very practical IMHO. A better solution would be engines that run on vegetable oil.

If you ever run out of gas, heh.. just look for a restaurant nearby! Maybe MacDonalds will even offer to "refuel" your car with your fries.

Yup! It's definitely possible to run vegetable oil as diesel fuel.

No modification needed. But you need the 'modify' the vegetable oil though.

Really? I thought you just need to filter it before filling up the tank?

If I'm not mistaken, the vegefuel must be hot enough before it's fed to the engine, so I think they have to start the van on regular diesel before switching.
