Yeah, no one breaks their neck so far. But still it's better to be extra safe than sorry. I mean they are moving at 300km+/hour... crashing at this speed won't look nice.

Ok, back to the topic.

HANS device has been used in American racing series for a few years before coming to F1. Last year, a few drivers started testing HANS. But this year, it is compulsary to use it for every driver. In the first race, Rubens Barrichello complained it's too uncomfortable and it's affecting his race, but how true is it, I don't know. Maybe he's just giving excuses.

But Justin Wilson was a different case. I forgot what actually happened, but he admitted hostipal because of HANS! But so far no complains now. Seems good. It should protect neck injuries when accident happens. But so far, I've never heard of neck injuries even before these drivers are using HANS...
i think Justin just got a little unlucky... he was 'temporaly crippled' because the HANS device had push down and disrupted his nerves... once the HANS device of off... he's back to normal... So this is a totally isolated case..

hmmm so HANS is actually tested and proven technology then?

That's it. Seriously, I don't really see the need of HANS. Remember the huge crash in 2001 Belgium, where Burti crashed really hard, 150mph straight onto the tire barrier? He only suffered concussion, nothing else! That was without HANS. HANS is effective if the crash is head on impact.

What's fun about Star Wars anyway? I think it's overly-hyped. I don't see anything interesting about it except... A long long time ago... in a galaxy far far away...
