unable to use bluetooth headset with MP3 player

I am hoping someone here can solve the problem for me. I have a MPIO FY500 MP3 player that I hope to use with a Cardo Scala 500 wireless headset. The BTA adapter from Cardo has a 2.5 mm jacket, so I got a connecter that goes from 2.5 to 3.5 mm. I plug the whole setup together, but can't hear any music on the wireless headset.

Now, I am sure the wireless headset and the BTA adapter works, because I have successfullly used it with cell phones. The only other variable is this 3.5 mm connecter. I can't quite figure out a way to test this connecter.

Perhaps the BTA adapter only works with 2.5 mm, perhaps the MP3 player somehow doesn't work with the BTA adapter. Either way, I am not sure what's wrong or how to test the setup.

Have you tried using on another audio devices? like your computer, or other audio equipment?

Come to think of it, I did try it on my iPaq, which has a 3.5 mm jack, and it didn't work either. The more I think about it, the more I wonder about this 3.5 mm connecter. Even if the 3.5 mm connecter is functional, I still wonder if the whole setup only works with the 2.5 mm jack.

I'd suspect that it's the 2.5 to 3.5mm connector is the problem. Have you tried with a regular 3.5mm headphone with the connector?

The 3.5 mm connector has an opening for 2.5 mm jack to plug into, and it comes out as a 3.5 mm, i.e. it allows a 2.5 mm jack into a 3.5 mm opening on another device. I have not been able to find a simple audio device to try out the 3.5 mm connecter. The headphones or earphones I have seen so far all come with 3.5 mm jack.

Hmm i guess the only way then is to test it with a amp meter if you have access to one to make sure the connector actually works. I've bought crappy connectors that don't work before.

Hmm.. Can you get a picture of it?

Check out this link at Radio Shack, I believe this is the connector. It connects a smaller head to a bigger head, so it can plug into regular microphone jack.

I forgot to mention that I did eventually manage to get some connectivity out of the whole setup, but it's only intermittent. It feels like a "poor connection", in the sense that if I manipulate the cables and connector, then I may be able to get some sound of out it. There's definitely an issue with the connector, which unfortunately is less than a "perfect" fit.

Frankly I am quite lost in terms of what to do next. I thought it's a simply thing to connect jacks of different sizes with proper connectors, but never thought there's much more to it.

It's almost certainly a connection problem. It could be the converter... or the port on the MP3 player itself.

IMHO, it is probably a loose contact point. If you can change the converter, try that first. See if it works. If you still face the same problem, then it must be the MP3 player's port.

If you can open it up (the player), you can try pushing in the contact points so that they will give a tighter fit.
