Default Gecube offers three X800GT cards

Quote:
DDR1, DDR2 and GDDR3 versions

By Fuad Abazovic: Tuesday 09 August 2005, 14:56

INFO-TEK the company behind the Gamecube brand has released three different cards based on ATI new old X800GT core. All cards have the same core clocked at 475 MHz and each has eight pipelines enabled. Some of the X800GT cards are R480 while most of the cards are based on R423 core but in each case they are a good bet for not so much money.

ATI is surely pressuring Nvidia with this card. We don't know whether it makes financial sense to sell a cripple high end chip at a sub mainstream price but ATI has got to have some great yields on those chips. Otherwise it might just want to screw Nvidia. We would not be surprised if that is the case.

The Taiwanese manufacturer decided to have three version of the card each using a different memory standard. The GC-RX800GT-C3 will use 128MB DDR one memory using 256 bit memory bus. It will be priced at $179. The second in line GC-RX800GT2-D3 uses 256MB of 256 bit DDR 2 memory and will end up a bit more expensive.

The company plans to price this card at $219. The third card will use GDDR 3 memory again clocked at 500MHz core and 1000MHz memory. The card known as GC-RX800GT3-D3 Limited Edition will come in limited quantities and we guess will end up a little bit more expensive. HIS is also making 500/1000MHz versions of the card and we assume that the usual suspect will have their own versions too.

All cards are powered with a Uni-Wise low-noise fan and should be available any day now. µ

This is going to be very confusing for buyers

Well don't forget that this one is targetted at the mainstream market. And the 6800LE/6800 vanilla use DDR1 memory too

Really. I thought all the new cards comes with ddr3. I guess I was wrong. I know that ddr3 is cooler and better performer than ddr1. I thought ddr2 is too hot for gfx card, aren't not many cards use them. I wonder why they are still used.
