Default NVIDIA Unveils World’s Fastest Mobile Graphics Chip!

Quote:
As expected, NVIDIA Corp. said on Wednesday its new GeForce Go 7800 GTX graphics processing unit (GPU) powered the most technically advanced mobile computers aimed at gamers and computer enthusiasts these days. The announcement means that the Santa Clara, California-based graphics chip designer now has lead over arch-rival ATI Technologies in the market of mobile GPUs.

“Notebook PCs have entered a new age of performance and features. With twice the performance compared to the previous generation, the GeForce Go 7 GPU delivers the ability to play all of today’s and tomorrow’s hottest games and the power to process high definition video – all with remarkable power savings,” stated Rob Csongor, general manager of notebook GPUs at NVIDIA.

The new mobile graphics processing unit (GPU) from NVIDIA is called the GeForce Go 7800 GTX and is set to inherit specifications of the desktop brother, the GeForce 7800 GTX. The novelty sports 24 pixel processors as well as 6 vertex processors, which is similar to the desktop flavour of the component.

The graphics processor was originally projected to operate at 400MHz, but NVIDIA indicated that different notebook makers may offer lower-speed flavours. Memory clock was said to be 1100MHz, but a document located at the company’s web-site claims about 38.4GB/s bandwidth, which implies that the speed may be up to 1200MHz for GDDR3 memory with 256-bit interface.

The mobile chip was reportedly proclaimed to be pin-to-pin compatible with the predecessor and have the same thermal envelope, which is likely to allow manufacturers of high-performance notebooks to quickly and easily switch to higher-performance GeForce Go 7800 GTX from the GeForce Go 6800 Ultra. In order to maintain similar power consumption with the predecessor, which reportedly consumed 65W and was also made using TSMC’s 110nm process technology, NVIDIA is said to deploy PowerMizer 6.0 technology.

NVIDIA Corp. said that the new GPU was immediately available in notebooks from Sager Computer, Inc., Falcon Northwest, Voodoo Computers, Inc., Eurocom Corporation, ABS Computer Technologies, Inc., Hypersonic PC Systems, Evesham Technology and ProStart Computer.
