Default ATI gets stick from journos, OEMs!

Quote:
AFTER a really dreadful experience travelling back and forth to an ATI event in Ibiza which took 21 hours flying from Zagreb compared to Taipei in 17 hours, I felt a bit numb.

You see, I had a CrossFire system for a mere 24 hours, during which I experienced that melting feeling, with all the negative limitations really killing my positive drive.

Array Technologies Incorporated Technologies Incorporated (ATI) spinners claimed immidiate availability of Crossfire at the second NDA expiry date on September 26th. But, nothing happened.

Then, slides at the Ibiza event placed availability of CrossFire graphics cards at October 5th, but we've found that even that the date has slid to October 10th. Critical comment about Crossfire comes from an unexpected source - the CTO and founder of ATI partner and well-know enthusiast PC builder, VoodooPC. In his weblog, Rahul, one of the long time serving enthusiasts, openly criticised ATI over lack of R520 samples and the lack of CrossFire samples. To say the least, reading Rahul's comment left me shocked.

VoodooPC has been touted as an Crossfire launch partner, the same thing goes for R5xx? While Crossfire does offer a compelling upgrade to owners of X800s and X850, today's introduction of the X1000 series only brings more chaos to the table.

With the introduction of two incompatible mixes of CrossFire, that brings the total number of Crossfire flavours to three: you have classical X8x0, a new dual-link cable for X1000 series, and a PCIe-only version in the X1300 series. Luckily, resolution and refresh rate limitations are things of the past.

So, who needs Crossfire X8x0 anyway now?
