Can you check your connection's speed? If you can, you can ask them to upgrade but you must keep an eye on the connection.

Often, they will claim they have already upgraded the line BUT when you check the connection, it's still 512kbps. I know because that's what they did to me.

Apparently, it takes them 2-3 weeks to get it done right. So, if that happens to you, write to Streamyx and demand for a refund.

It recently took me a month to get my net connection repaired. Enough said.

Soeaking of which, how come some respondents said broadband is 'too expensive'?

A flat rate of 88 bucks a month, regardless of how long you stay online, and no interruption to your normal phone service, plus unlimited bandwidth? I mean, hello, sure, the customer service sucks, but doesnt the service have SOME merit? and SOME form of value for money?

That's true. But it's also true broadband CAN be cheaper in Malaysia.

I remember reading that providing an 8mbps connection cost TMNet as much as a 1mbps connection. Essentially, there's no cost difference between slower and faster ADSL. TMNet's pricing scheme is artificial.

Therefore, if they wish to do it, they can lower broadband prices and increase the number of subscribers. But again, being a typical GLC (government-linked company), they have chosen to deliberately limit bandwidth to 1mbps for home users and fix that at a rate of RM 88 per month. If you want anything faster, you have to pay through your nose for business or entreprise broadband plans.

Which brings me to business users. Instead of charging them equitable charges for broadband, TMNet is intentionally charging them a LOT more than home users. The cost is essentially the same. But they have to pay a lot more. As a businessman, would you pay so much?

If your business is Internet-related, then yes, you will have to fork out whatever TMNet wants to charge. You have no choice. But if your business is not Internet-related, the high price discourages you from subscribing and venturing into the Internet.

If you ask me, TMNet's doing a piss-poor job of encouraging everyone to get on the broadband bandwagon. Great coverage in areas that don't need that much coverage and no coverage in areas that are screaming for coverage. Superb work, TMNet!

Aha.

Now they are doing the RM44 festival package with 88 Hours.

I really hate that. I wished I could have subscribed at this time. But I have only 60 hours.

They have also just reduced the 1mbps package from RM 88 per month to RM 77 per month!
