Default LaCie 1TB USB 2.0 HDD

Quote:
LaCie's latest product is an aluminium-encased USB 2.0 hard disk drive that offers a massive 1TB storage capacity, the largest of its type currently available.

With USB connectivity and no software to configure, LaCie's Big Disk Hi-Speed USB 2.0 is the ultimate combination of convenience, capacity and affordability per gigabyte. You even get a copy of LaCie's new One Click Backup Software for PC and Mac.

The Big Disk Hi-Speed USB 2.0's portability and versatility should make it easy to use at any workstation. This low-cost alternative is ideal for backing up several workstations or handling space-hungry applications. There's no need to configure any software, either - just hook it up to a USB port on any PC or Mac and start swapping images, large files or office documents right away.

'There isn't a drive on the market that can offer the affordability, design, versatility, convenience and performance of the LaCie Big Disk Hi-Speed USB 2.0,' says Olivier Mirloup, LaCie Senior Product Manager. 'This drive is the highest quality, easiest to use product in its price range.'

Technical specifications of the drive include a rotational speed of 7200rpm, FireWire 800 (800Mbit/s), FireWire 400 (400Mbit/s), and USB 2.0 (480Mbit/s) ports, maximum sustained transfer rate of up to 55MB/s, average seek time (write) of 10ms, and 8MB buffer. The drive itself measures 173x44x272mm and weighs 2.5kg.

If 1TB ($929) is overkill for your needs, the Big Disk Hi-Speed USB 2.0 drive is available as 500GB ($349) and 600GB ($429) models. These two models are fan-free for ultra-quiet operation, while the 1TB model includes new Smart Fan technology that automatically cools the drive when needed.

Drives are protected by LaCie's d2 aluminium alloy case design that helps dissipates heat by drawing it away from the internal disk, prolonging the life of the drive. The drives can be stacked, rack-mounted or stood upright.
LaCie has been doing well with their portable HDD's.. and this one looks way cool. now when they gonna come out with a mini-size version.
