Post Samsung releases fastest GDDR-4 SGRAM

Quote:
SAMSUNG IS WELL ready for the upcoming war between Nvidia's G80 refresh and ATI's R600.

The semiconductor division of this manufacturing giant announced that it has started mass production of 512Mbit (64MB) GDDR-4 SGRAM chips boasting a massive 1.4GHz working clock in DDR mode.

The K4U52324QE-BC07 chips work at a 2.8GHz clock speed, which is astonishing and the amount of bandwidth both Nvidia and ATI can count on is mind-boggling.

that's lightning fast 2800mhz gddr4!!!
179Gb/s mem bandwidth for the R600, would that be a overkill?

I think we are moving through technologies too quickly. We need to let them saturate and improve before just pushing them out for something a little newer.

I agree. I really hate it when I find that I spent a ton of money on something that just became "obsolete" because of a newer model. I feel everyone should be given enough time to enjoy what they had just bought.

I think it's somewhat similar to how car designs changes so quickly.

Japanese car manufacturers usually redesigns their models every four years and makes "face lifts" or refreshes every two years.

Sorry for going out-of-topic.

But do we really need DDR4 right now?
