I don't know about you, but it looks to me like AMD has a long way to go. Launching with processors "up to 2.0Ghz" ONLY. And they are only releasing it for the servers, not desktop.

Hmm.. I believe they already have samples out. But yeah, only server processors in August. They cannot tell us when the desktop processors will be out, except that it will be before the end of the year.

Well, performance is not everything. They can always fight on price point. In any case, the launch of their Phenom processors may help drive prices low.

Intel's decision to support DDR3 isn't going to help its cause. It will be an uphill battle as DDR3 is very expensive. That may give AMD the shot they need. On the other hand, Intel still has very capable DDR2 platforms. Oh well, time will tell.

Intel will not be hurt by lower costs. Infact, their profits shot up. Whereas AMD keeps going back further into the reds. (The only time they actually made a profit was during the K8 A64 days).

Yup, Intel will not be hurt. But AMD needs to beat Intel at something. If it's not just performance, then price has to be a real consideration as well.

if AMD play the price war, they probably wont have the chance to see 2009's firework no one would sell their high-end lineups for below 200USD (good news to us :mrgreen)

they only have one way to go, and that's to have a flagship that can beat Intel's C2D. that way they can sell the rest of the lineup for more $. they know it.. thats why we got so many powerpoint slides in the past several months.

remember this is the company that abandoned its fan base once they won the dell's contract..in malay we called it PADAN MUKA and do not forget the amount of FREE publicity and coverage they got from the media in the past 4-5 years.
