Default Super fast Net access with fibre-optic service

I predict this will again be less than what they are promising... anyone with me?
Quote:
KUALA LUMPUR: It will not be long before Malaysians join the ranks of privileged Internet users in other parts of the world who are already enjoying blazing fast broadband access.

Telekom Malaysia (TM) Bhd is moving to provide 100-megabits per second (Mbps) access to the home through the use of fibre-optic connections and the electrical wiring in our houses, apartments and condominiums.

"We are heading for the digital home era where IPTV (Internet Protocol Television), VoIP (Voice-over-Internet Protocol) and home surveillance (via the Net) are necessities," said TM Malaysia Business CEO Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa.

"This will pave the way," he added.

The telco plans to start the first phase rollout of its service in the third quarter of next year.

Initially, the connection speed will be 10Mbps, but this will increase as the rollout continues.

Zamzamzairani said TM would be starting with high-rise buildings such as condominiums before moving to houses on the ground.

"It may take two to three years before the service becomes widely available," he added.

He said the rollout would be easier if property developers start providing fibre-optic infrastructure in their housing projects.

Currently, most broadband users in the country have to be content with Internet connections of 2Mbps or less.

It doesn't really matter how fat the bandwidth isn't it?

It's like giving us a bicycle on a 4 lane highway.

Hmm... giving out bicycle to 10 millions people on a 1km highway. Hmm... cannot fit. Ok, make it 5/10km.

Actually, you are missing my point.

I mean you can give us 10 lane highway, but if the speed limit is 10km/h, what's the point...

Yeah, that's the thing. What's the point of having 100 mbps if they are going to limit outstation bandwidth to something like 50 kbps? It's like Chai says - a 10 lane highway with a 10 km/h speed limit.

It could be even worse. They may claim 100 mbps but that could be the speed between your modem and the port. Beyond that, it is probably just our good old (super slow) TMNet network.

But I foresee TMNet and our government using this as political and PR fodder. I can see the headlines now. We are now more advanced than <insert first world nation of choice>.

i think you guys got the wrong msg..

maybe it's 100mbps connection to each condo, but charge every user for 100mbps price

4mbps = 198, 1mbps = 49.5, make it RM50 la. so 100mbps line will cost RM5k?

"our broadband is still the cheapest in AP & J"
