USB to be 10 times faster

Its predecessor, USB 2.0, has a data rate of 60mbps and was released in 2000 and announced as the new standard in 2001, with revisions made since this time, including the development of Micro-USB.

Jeff Ravencraft, technology strategist with Intel, said that the super-fast USB 3.0 standard is the “next logical step” for this form of wired connectivity.

“The digital era requires high-speed performance and reliable connectivity to move the enormous amounts of digital content now present in everyday life,” he said.

“USB 3.0 will meet this challenge while maintaining the ease-of-use experience that users have come to love and expect from any USB technology.”

I thought MS once said they're not going to further development USB anymore, instead moving to Firewire?

Firewire still requires licensing, right? So, using USB should help cut down on costs.

Firewire? Really? I thought firewire is going obsolete. Even Vista also doesn't have already.

USB is not going down anytime soon coz next year I think we are going to have wireless USB from Microsoft.

That's what they said at the WinHEC 2007.

Yeah. I too thought Firewire was just dying off since almost all devices are USB enabled, even digital camcorders which are the prime users of the firewire connection.

Well camcorders may support USB but not for video extraction, at least not for the tape-based camcorders. Those camcorders still require Firewire to extract the video stream. USB is only used to retrieve photos.
