Default ASUS bringing Splashtop instant-on OS to all its motherboards

Quote:
We've seen the Splashtop instant-on OS demoed on ASUS gear in the past, and now it looks like the company is making the love official: it's going to start shipping it on all its motherboards. ASUS is calling the platform "Express Gate," but it's the same instant-on, ready-to-browse environment we've known about since October: an embedded Linux distro that runs Firefox and Skype off a memory chip linked directly to the BIOS. You might want to hit that link and check out the screenshots, actually -- with ASUS set to ship over a million mobos a month with the feature, chances are it'll be on a machine near you relatively soon.

Interesting! It'll be something to do for the people when the main OS broke down. At least they can still surf the net without the main OS for a while.

Very nice idea, as YongGrand said, should be useful when the main OS no longer work ie for backupping.

For sure on both your posts and also sounds handy for playing with the BIOS without having to have a second machine running. If something goes astray or you need to look something up you don't need a second machine.

This makes this a stand alone system in most cases which is cool

They should invent this thing earlier... !

Also, they should invent onboard RAM inside... like those el-cheapo integrated embedded VIA systems (with a fanless processor). They might be useful in certain occasions!
