KUALA LUMPUR, 26 March 2015 – Building on the launch momentum of the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 in August last year, Malaysian consumers and businesses looking to boost their productivity will now be able to get their hands on the one device that doubles up as both a tablet and a laptop through more retailers and commercial resellers.

This is thanks to a nationwide distribution agreement between Microsoft Malaysia (“Microsoft”) and local distributors, ECS Astar Sdn Bhd (“ECS”) and Ingram Micro Malaysia Sdn Bhd (“Ingram Micro”).

Both ECS and Ingram Micro are the official distributors of Surface in Malaysia for the consumer and commercial channels respectively. With this arrangement, ECS will now distribute the Surface Pro 3 through extended list of retail stores, while Ingram Micro will distribute the device through additional commercial resellers, nationwide.

Both consumers and businesses can log on to Malaysia - Surface starting today to find out the latest promotional offers for the Surface Pro 3 – buyers, for instance, can now save RM330 when purchasing the Surface Pro 3 today.

This channel expansion in partnership with ECS and Ingram Micro greatly increases the company’s reach to support the growing demand for Surface Pro 3 by Malaysians. Surface Pro 3 brings together the convenience of a tablet with the power and performance of a laptop, a value proposition that has been appealing to the Malaysian market very well.

In a world where true convergence of digital work and life have become pervasive, consumers are increasingly turning to hybrid devices to meet their needs. Surface Pro 3 has attracted praises from reviewers and users for its portability, while offering multiple functionalities - the first tablet to be regarded as a laptop replacement.

Darren Ryan, head of category management for Microsoft Asia Pacific pointed out the excitement and demand that continues to grow ever since the Surface Pro 3 was launched back in August 2014: “The response to Surface Pro 3 has been great, and we have since been hard at work to continuously bring in a device that is designed for unparalleled productivity and mobility to more Malaysians. Today’s announcement is a demonstration of our continuing commitment in bringing improved productivity to enable people to do more - wherever and whenever.”

Commenting on the partnership, Tee Ang Kuan, General Manager, ECS Astar Group said they are extremely pleased to be appointed the nationwide distributor for Surface Pro 3: “The response towards Surface Pro 3 has been overwhelming. Microsoft’s Surface family of devices have always offered exceptional experience, extreme portability and excellent build. We look forward to making the Surface Pro 3 available to even more Malaysians through this partnership.”

Managing Director of Ingram Micro, Tay Boon Tiang echoed Tee’s sentiments, adding: “Built for productivity, Microsoft’s Surface has improved in leaps and bounds since it was first launched, and the improvements that come with Surface Pro 3 makes it the perfect device for businesses. With this partnership, Malaysian businesses will have more commercial options in terms of purchasing Surface Pro 3, allowing more Malaysians to work from anywhere at any time, in any way they want.”

According to research firm IDC's latest prediction, Microsoft's Windows 2-in-1 devices - the most visible example being the best-selling Surface Pro 3 - are expected to spur growth with the impending arrival of the company's latest operating system, Windows 10, this year. IDC's latest estimate expects worldwide shipments of Windows-powered tablets and 2-in-1s to reach 16.3 million in 2015. By 2019, IDC predicts makers will ramp up shipment to 38 million Windows tablets and 2-in-1s, boosting the OS' share of the market markedly from 5.1% in 2015 to 14.1% in 2019.

Surface Pro 3 is a powerful 2-in-1 tablet and a laptop: multiple processor, RAM and storage options intersect with a sleek design that, with a simple snap or click, transforms the device from a perfectly balanced tablet to a full-functioning laptop and back again — all in a beautiful package.

The device comes with a 12-inch ClearType Full HD display, 4th-generation Intel® Core processor and up to 8 GB of RAM. With up to nine hours of Web-browsing battery life, Surface Pro 3 has all the power, performance and mobility of a laptop in an incredibly lightweight, versatile form.

Surface Pro 3 is available in 28 markets around the world, including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, Thailand and Malaysia.
