PENANG, May 21, 2015 – Intel has today officially launched in Malaysia its next generation of computing – the Intel® Compute Stick – at the Intelligent Generations showcase in PG 12, Intel Penang.

The Compute Stick – an Intel® Atom™ powered 4-inch long plug-and-play device which transforms any HDMI display into a computer – has been making waves around the world since its debut and continued to impress at the event.

“What we’re unveiling today is a culmination of the work we’ve built on a foundation laid down by 50 years of Moore’s Law. In fact, the Intel Compute Stick was a brainchild of local engineers here in Intel Malaysia and we are extremely proud of having brought this game changing idea to fruition,” said Sumner Lemon, Country Manager, Intel Malaysia and Singapore. “The Intel Compute Stick provides the functionality of a full-fledged desktop computer without taking up the space of one. It will open up a whole new world of computing for its users – be it those who work in small offices, those who compute on the go, or those looking to upgrade their smart living room setups.”

At the showcase, Intel also exhibited the latest 5th Generation Intel® Core™ powered and various Intel® Atom™ x3 reference designs and development boards. The 5th Generation Intel® Core™ processor series, launched earlier this year at CES 2015, enables manufacturers to create high performance devices which offer uncompromising battery life while the Intel® Atom™ x3 enables manufacturers to penetrate the entry-level market of mobile devices, with powerful smartphones and tablets at attractive, entry-level price points.

“Technology is driving a new wave of innovation throughout the entire Asia-Pacific region including Japan. Some of the latest devices capable of enabling more personal, engaging experiences are being developed right here in Asia - this includes the Intel Compute Stick developed in Intel’s Malaysia Design Centre and the Atom X3 processor series developed in Intel Mobile Communications in Singapore,” said Prakash Mallya, Managing Director Sales and Marketing Intel South East Asia. “The rise of new personal computing experiences, intelligent and connected devices and the wearable revolution are redefining the relationship between consumers and technology and I am very excited to see some the world’s best talents in technology drive this very change right here in Asia.”

Devices powered by the Intel 5th Generation Core processor are available on the market now from brands including ASUS, Acer, Dell and Lenovo. Atom x3 smartphones and tablets are anticipated to be available later this year.
