VIA and C Media Bring Uninterrupted Wi-Fi Service to Passenger Trains in China

    Taipei, Taiwan, August 25, 2015 Taipei - VIA Technologies, Inc. and C Media, today announced the launch of a Wi-Fi Service System for passenger trains in China that will ensure free uninterrupted Wi-Fi connectivity for passengers in even the remotest locations on their journey.

    Passengers on the more than 700 trains which are being outfitted with VIA’s industry-leading Wi-Fi server hardware can utilize C Media’s “Bamboo Basket” software application suite to log on to the network with their own devices and access a wide range of entertainment options including free movies, music, and games; popular social media platforms; as well as a host of travel services that include, timetable updates, meal ordering, and ticket reservations.

    Highlights of the Wi-Fi Service System include:

    · Scalable cloud-based software services platform developed by C Media to meet the high data capacity requirements of passengers and resolve signal interference issues.

    · Free “Bamboo Basket” app that allows passengers to enjoy movies, music, books, comics, games, and other on-demand entertainment programs, as well as also providing specialist travel services such as ticket reservations. C Media has a dedicated team that will continue to optimize the basket of services based on the current market and user feedback.

    · Fanless, ruggedized hardware system developed by VIA to ensure reliability and performance in demanding operational environments, including varying power supply requirements, wide operating temperature ranges, and extreme vibration conditions. The system provides the backbone to the service platform and is capable of supporting up to 120 users per train car.

    "We have signed an agreement with six national railway bureaus including Guangzhou, Kunming, Beijing, Zhengzhou, Lanzhou, and Hohhot, to install the systems in over 700 trains."
